I used to have more doors linking interior rooms but replaced them with vents when I saw the crew liked to take shortcuts through the shuttle bay, tanking their comfort levels. Shuttle bays were combined with mining pods because crew spend a minimal amount of time in those areas. Also I love left/right balance in my designs.
Dual spacesuit door entries mitigate the "we'll all do logistics jobs in the engine room now!" lemming rush that leaves several crew members out of oxygen when they overwhelm a door's capacity.

All other areas of the ship are high traffic, well-lit and maximize comfort.Įngine and generator rooms were built completely airless and all power storage is located here to minimize solar flare damage. Industrial areas are vital to my playstyle, and I won't allow them to become the hellholes that I got when I put them all in one room. Those orange areas are not red because I partitioned my industry and don't allow discomfort bleed-through/overlap.
I'll also want to get the toilets relocated a bit closer to the centralized crew lounge in future designs.ĭiscomfort sources are isolated and separated from each other in any room crew spend considerable time. I want to get a medical area between the crew lounge and bridge, but it hasn't been a priority yet. I'm slowly extending the bridge area to be more pointed (think arrowhead design) as I add new subsystems. I always start with engines centered and backed up as far as they can go and build forward from there. Scanners are modified to require no ship points, which I will undo when I eventually change design to 3x2 size for the extra ship points. Hard mode scenario with all basic research already complete. Design is always iterating from what I learned on the last playthrough. She may be a bit too boxy right now, but my ship is as optimized as I could get it so far.
